A small flock grazes across the green,
no fences to hold them in,
no tethers to tie them down.
Do you know how much trouble sheep can get into?
Hoof rot, sore mouth,
eating the peonies…
More than I know.
I should be watching them day in and day out,
ensuring those cute little faces don’t settle into the leaves of my strawberries,
but they look so harmless,
I forget that their menu includes anything green.
Is there a point to this?
Just that mismanaged sheep can wreck a whole farm,
following the leader right over this season’s crop.
Watch where you’re going, leader.
