The Unbroken Blade #10.5

“So, since you ignored our requests and completely failed to provide naval protection for us during the PirMallan raids, in violation of your sworn duties, we had to cobble together some of our own. I hope you don’t mind that we borrowed all of the mothballed cruisers you had parked at the Nakito Naval Yard. You didn’t seem to be using them. We also had to negotiate other sources of electronics and supplies, since you weren’t sharing those either, but we managed. You may call it “treason”, or “collaborating with the enemy”, but we call it, “not being slaughtered by pirates”. If you wish to negotiate for our readmission to the official provinces, feel free to stop by in person. We’ll be happy to inscribe our terms on a 120 millimeter railrifle shell and send it to you.”

-First Captain Badran ParThrasin of Kellfro Freeport. Excerpt from a secession letter sent to Emperor Vastin ArdAnkadia in 1940 YL.

Start reading at Chapter #0

This chapter is part of the in-progress serial web novel The Unbroken Blade, intended to be book one in The Shattered Empire trilogy, and features a mix of sci-fi and thematic elements reminiscent of near-future military fiction such as Gasaraki or Isaac Hooke’s Atlas series and sci-fi combat classics such as Mechwarrior/Battletech and Gundam. The story is rich with battle and conflicts of honor and conscience arising around a civil war on the forested world of Dankar, far from our own, but is primarily focused on how the main characters deal with the challenges they face, not their machines or their world.
